LAMEMBA Launches International Accreditation Scheme, Opening New Opportunities for Global Higher Education Collaboration
JAKARTA – The Institute of Accreditation for Economics, Management, Business, and Accounting Programs (LAMEMBA) has officially launched the LAMEMBA International Accreditation (LIA), its first international accreditation scheme for schools and faculties in the fields of economics, management, business, and accounting.
Held virtually on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, under the theme “Strengthening Higher Education: Quality Assurance and Global Competitiveness,” the launch marks an important step in LAMEMBA’s efforts to expand its contribution to higher education quality assurance from the national level to the global quality assurance community.
The event brought together prominent figures in higher education and quality assurance, including Prof. Dr. Ina Primiana, S.E., M.T., Chair of the Executive Board of LAMEMBA; Perry Warjiyo, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the Honorary Board of LAMEMBA; Prof. Brian Yuliarto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia; and Prof. Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hou, Distinguished Professor at National Chengchi University, Taiwan, former Vice President of INQAAHE and APQN, and former CEO of HEEACT.
The launch represents a new chapter for LAMEMBA, transitioning from an accreditation agency primarily focused on national quality assurance to an active contributor to the global higher education quality assurance community.
In his Opening Remarks, Perry Warjiyo, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the Honorary Board of LAMEMBA, emphasized the importance of strengthening the quality and global competitiveness of Indonesian higher education in response to an increasingly dynamic global environment. The launch of LIA represents one of LAMEMBA’s initiatives to extend Indonesia’s contribution to higher education quality assurance at the international level.
In her opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Ina Primiana, S.E., M.T., Chair of the Executive Board of LAMEMBA, emphasized that the quality of higher education can no longer be viewed within national boundaries.
“Through our experience, we have learned one important lesson: quality knows no boundaries. Our universities educate students who will work in a global environment, our academics collaborate across countries, and our research addresses challenges that extend beyond national borders. Therefore, quality assurance must also adopt a global perspective,” said Prof. Dr. Ina Primiana, S.E., M.T.
She further explained that LIA is not merely intended to bring LAMEMBA’s name beyond Indonesia, but also to bring its experience, values, and commitment to quality into the global quality assurance community while continuing to learn from international best practices.
The presence of LIA is also expected to strengthen connections between higher education institutions in Indonesia and their counterparts abroad. According to Prof. Dr. Ina Primiana, S.E., M.T., a representative of LAMEMBA, the international accreditation scheme can serve as a gateway for institutions seeking to establish international partnerships.
“Institutions that have been accredited through LAMEMBA International Accreditation will be connected. This creates mutual trust, allowing them to work together and collaborate to improve the quality of higher education,” said Prof. Dr. Ina Primiana, S.E., M.T.
Such connections may open opportunities for joint research, student exchange programs, faculty exchange, joint seminars, and international conferences, while also providing a pathway for overseas institutions seeking to establish partnerships with Indonesian higher education institutions.
LIA has been developed based on three principal approaches: the Mission and Vision-Based Approach, which considers each institution’s vision, mission, and unique context; Outcome and Impact-Based Evaluation, which focuses on the achievements and tangible impacts of academic programs; and Process-Based and Continuous Improvement, which encourages institutions to pursue continuous quality enhancement through ongoing evaluation.
LIA is also built upon LAMEMBA’s experience and international recognition. LAMEMBA has achieved alignment with the 2022 International Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Tertiary Education (ISGs) of INQAAHE following a review conducted on September 26, 2025. The alignment covers six key areas: institutional legitimacy, external review framework, decision-making and appeals mechanisms, internationalization, integrity and transparency, and stakeholder involvement, with a five-year validity period.
As the keynote speaker, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, delivered a presentation entitled “Strengthening Higher Education: Quality Assurance and Global Competitiveness,” highlighting the role of quality assurance in strengthening the global competitiveness of Indonesian higher education.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hou delivered a presentation entitled “How Do Quality Assurance Agencies in Asia Measure Higher Education?” She presented findings from her latest research on the approaches, standards, and challenges faced by quality assurance agencies in Asia in measuring higher education quality.
